Lyons middle school basketball season starts off with a win

The Lyon Co Middle School boys basketball got underway last week with six exciting games in the Lyon Co. Middle School gym. They finished the week with 5 wins and showed great promise in the young season.
Last Monday night, the Lyons started the season against the visiting Crittenden Co. Rockets. The 7th grade Lyons wasted no time in jumping out to a 13-5 first quarter lead and a 20-8 lead at half. The Lyons put the game away in the 3rd quarter outscoring the Rockets 19-3 and went on to win 43-21.
The Lyons had a balanced scoring attack as 8 Lyons hit the score books. Jordon Gary 12, Jerico Wilkerson 8, Brandon White 7, Ben Tucker 6, Dalton Nelson 4, and Chad Duncan, Nick Richardson, and Kolton Schoonover all chipped in 2.
The 8th grade trailed briefly at 5-8 at the end of the 1st quarter, but outscored the visitors 16-6 in the 2nd. Jordon Gary, Jerico Wilkerson, and Denim Eubanks lead the charge, all scoring 4 points in the quarter. The halftime margin proved to be enough as the teams traded baskets in the 2nd half with the Lyons going on to win 47-39.
The 8th grade also had a balanced attack with Austin Burris scoring 11, Jerico Wilkerson and Denim Eubanks with 9 each, Jordon Gary and Brandon White each with 7, and Austin Rush, and Trey Greene rounding out the score with 2 points each.
On Tuesday night the Middle School boys hosted the Panthers of Dawson. The 7th grade, utilizing their running style jumped out to 31-0 halftime lead and never looked back winning 53-2. Jordon Gary scored 18, Brandon White 9, Chad Duncan 8, Ben Tucker, Ben Rooyakkers, and Kolton Schoonover each with 4, and Eli Reed, Dalton Nelson, and Dallas Galusha scored 2 points each.
The 8th grade put their game away early also leading 25-5 at half being big Austin Burris’ 12 1st half points. Brandon White knocked down two threes to start the 3rd quarter and the Lyons cruised to a 58-15 victory.
Austin Burris lead all scorers with 17, followed by Denim Eubanks 9, Brandon White and Jerico Wilkerson each with 8, Jordon Gary and Austin Rush with 7, and Zack Polston with 2.
On Friday night 5th District rival Livingston Co. Cardinals rolled into town to take on the Lyons. The Cardinals, always a strong competitor, proved to be no match for the running, fast paced 7th graders on this night as the Lyons rolled out to a 18-6 first half lead going on to win 39-23.
The 7th graders again balanced the score book as Jordon Gary, Brandon White and Jerico Wilkerson each scored 10 points, Dallas Galusha 4, Ben Tucker and Zhenya Trimm each with 2 and Ben Rooyakkers with 1.
The 8th grade finally met their match playing a hard fough, physical game against the Cardinals, failing 55-45. The 8th grade was led in scoring by Jerico Wilkerson with 14, Jordon Gary 10, Denim Eubanks 8, Austin Burris 6, Brandon White 5, and Trey Greene with 2.
The Middle School boys will be back in action this week when they travel to Marion for a rematch against the Crittenden Co. Rockets.
