Lyon County’s new baseball coach is not a new face. Wade White will take the lead in the school’s baseball program when “the boys of summer” return to the field this spring. He’ll be assisted by Brian Snyder and a posse of volunteer coaches including Earl Rush, Kevin Lewis, and Mike Davis and Corby Medlin, both of Arizona Diamondbacks fame.
“We’ve been working on Coach White for a while now, said athletic director Jeff Doom, “and he said he would not accept the position until he had a great coaching staff in place. He does, and we’re all really excited to see where he’s going to take this team.”
“I played baseball in high school and have a deep love for the game,” White said. “I’ve coached Little League for four years and I believe that with this staff of coaches and volunteers we can really bring a lot to the Lyon County program. These men all love baseball and I’m looking forward to all they can share with these guys.”
Doom stressed that White will teach more than just baseball. “Wade is a great guy, a family man and a terrific role model for young men.”
“We try to live our lives the way we want to teach these kids, and baseball can correlate info life,” White said. “Learning how to lose, learning how to win, learning how to treat other people, learning how to react in adversity - all that stuff’s going to matter on our team.”
A non-mandatory informal informational meeting was held Tuesday to introduce Coach White to prospective players, and White said “there is a lot of talent here in Lyon County.”
“Another thing that we’re going to do is to train this team as individuals,” White said. “We’re not just going to run them all through a bunch of drills we’ll identify who is good at what and work with them to develop and refine their skills, and we hope that coalesces into a really strong team.”
White said he will ask only three things of his players; give 100%, come prepared with an attitude of winning, and have a good time.
Superintendent Quin Sutton expressed his appreciation to White for taking over the program. “We’ve been talking to Coach White about taking over this program for a long time, and I think he has worked hard to get his staff together. I’m looking forward to seeing great things.”
