Lyon countians lost a dedicated public servant and a good friend when Rebecca “Becky” Suitor died Friday.
She served as deputy clerk in the Lyon County Clerk’s office many years working for both former Clerk Jane DeFew and her daughter-in law Sarah DeFew who is the clerk now.
“We worked together for 14 years and we’ve been friends for 18 years,” Sarah DeFew said. “We worked together when her first husband passed and she was with me when my mother passed in ‘86, and when Jane died and when James died. She was a good friend.
“She was an active deputy clerk when she died, she was just on medical leave,” DeFew said. “Becky was just a precious person; she was a very hard worker.
“She was a believer in God, and she believed everything would be all right,” DeFew said. “She would gi for (cancer) treatment, and then come to work — she was dedicated to the people of Lyon county.”
DeFew said all who worked in the clerk’s worked with Suitor and appreciated and will miss her.
“You really get to know someone when you work with them,” said Deputy Clerk Lori Duff. “You get to know their family, hurts, worries and heartaches. Working with Becky, it didn’t take long to know she was a hard worker and a natural leader.
“The last year has been a year of heartache, hope and sorrow,” Duff said. “Through it all, Becky exemplified the Christian qualities and faith that she totally depended on. She was loved and will be truly missed.”
Deputy Clerk Clayton Timmons also cited fond memories of Suitor.
“If there is one thing that I’ll never forget about Becky, it’s that she was always in a great mood,” he said. “It was hard to upset Becky because it seemed like she was always smiling. She had an outstanding ability to lift up the entire office at any given moment! I am really going to miss her.”
Besides being a dedicated public servant, Suitor was a loving and dedicated mother who was very instrumental in helping her son, Brian Williams open the Williams Veterinary Clinic.
Herald General Rae Wagoner said: “That was her big deal — opening that veterinary clinic.”
