Will Coursey to seek
reelection to state House

Incumbent state Rep. Will Coursey, D – Benton, has filed to run for reelection to the House of Representatives from the 6th District. Coursey was first elected to the seat in 2008 and is serving his second term. Signing his filing papers were Trent Lovett, Marshall County School superintendent, and Jessica Scillion, president of the Benton Woman’s Club.
“I am honored to be able to serve the people of Marshall, Lyon, and McCracken counties,” said Coursey. “We are fortunate to have all the right tools to advance our region – river, road, rail, and a workforce second to none. I look forward to using my experience and knowledge of the legislative process to guarantee our spot at the table during the upcoming budget session and help grow our economy.”
Coursey serves on the Banking and Insurance, Economic Development, Labor and Industry, State Government, and Transportation committees. He also is the vice chair of the Budget Review Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education and serves as co-chair of the new Subcommittee on Kentucky Waterways. When the 2010 legislative session convenes, Coursey will become vice chair of the House Banking and Insurance Committee.
“Will Coursey has proven his ability to legislate effectively in these tough times without ever losing sight of the issues which are important to his district,” said House Speaker Greg Stumbo. “He told me that his priorities are improving education and promoting economic development for the Purchase area, and his committee assignments reflect that.”
