With an 8-0 win Friday in Eddyville, American Legion Post 68 improved to 6-0 to start its season.
The Aces got off to a strong start with wins in Indiana and Hopkinsville heading into Friday night's match against Post 31 of McCracken County. Cameron Head led the shutout, throwing a no-hitter across 88 pitches. Head struck out 12 batters.
Head had a solid night on the other side of the plate, batting in two runs off one hit.
Post 68 got started in the bottom of the first with Gabe Board reaching base on a single. Will Allen hit to advance Board to third, where he capitalize on an infield error to score during Avery Ellis' at bat.
Post 31 walked Ellis, but escaped the inning with two runners stranded. The 1-0 lead would be good enough for the win, but Post 68 added two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings, along with three in the sixth or the 8-0 decision.
The win followed a four game sweep of Hopkins County Central earlier in the week, with Post 68 winning 12-0, 14-2, 17-1 and 10-1.
In the 10-1, Christian Whalin took the win on the mound, giving up two hits while throwing seven strikes during a complete game. Darrin Brown and Ellis both doubled during the contest, with Brown bringing in three runs and Ellis two.
In the 17-1 decision, Post 68 spread out the pitching duties, with four arms on the mound. A 10-run third inning lifted the Aces. The inning started with a single by Will Allen. Two errors and four walks across the next six plays put the game out of reach for Hopkinsville.
The Aces were scheduled to play Henderson Tuesday prior to presstime.
