Founders Day Olympics goes for the gold

Seventeen Olympic hopefuls competed in the first Eddyville Founders Day 2016 Olympics. The future Olympians competed in nine events and were scored to determine the gold, silver, and bronze medalists.

The events were long jump, high jump, push ups, sit ups, pull ups, free throws, heavy ball toss, Frisbee toss, and the obstacle course. Approximately 40 children participated but only 17 completed all nine events to be eligible for a medal. Following are the medalists:

Madelyn Perkins Girls, 6, Gold

Emma Brasher Girls, 8, Gold

Dawson Walker, 3, boys Gold

Barrett Brown, 4, boys Gold

Jaise Riley 5, boys Gold

Jacob Embry, 6, boys Gold

Mitchell Brown, 6, boys Silver

Cohen Wiggins, 7, boys Gold

Andrew Ritchie, 9, boys Gold

Turner Hurst, 9, boys Silver

Trace Walker, 9, Bronze

Grant Wiggins, 10, boys Gold

John Ryder Bingham, 10, boys Silver(tie)

Zach Radivonyk, 10, boys Silver(tie)

Aaron Humphries, 10, boys Bronze

Brandon Ray, 11, boys Gold

Ian Aldridge, 12, boys Gold

The event was sponsored by Akridge Farm Supply and Ace Hardware. Drinks were donated by Keith Adcock of Eddyville Food Giant and music/DJ was provided by James Dempsey and Donnie Odom of Jim Allens Music, The Lyon County Lady Lyons and Lyons basketball players helped keep the Olympic events up and running and all proceeds of the event were donated to the Lyon County Backboard Club.
