“It seems that everyone who attended the show had a really good time,” said Marilyn Reibel, the coordinator of the seventh annual Lake Barkley Quilt Show. “They had such fun admiring the quilts and visiting the vendors in a less congested venue than Paducah. Paducah is fun, and all of us go, but this show is a little more relaxing. Plus, everyone got to have a tasty lunch with Rose of the Cabin Bait and Deli.”

Local quilters who participated in the colorful displays were Eileen Biagi, Connie White, Margie Moller, Elizabeth Longbrake, and Barbara Suitor, and all of them were awarded ribbons for their efforts. A former Eddyville resident, Shirley Cade, who now resides in Louisville went home with the “Scrappy Quilt” that was part of the fund-raiser. Those attending were allowed to submit a nomination for the “Viewers’ Choice” award, and the design adorned with crystals, quilted by Joyce Puffinberger, was the winner.

The “Best of Show” as awarded in the official judging competition was “My Blue Collection,” quilted by Bobbie Green.

Seventy-eight entries were displayed during the two-day event with 45 quilts claiming Lyon County heritage. Quilters from surrounding counties participated, along with one entry from the Evansville, Ind. area.

“I just want to thank everybody who attended and had so many kind words for our efforts,” said Reibel. “Without the work of the group and the support of several local businesses, it would not have been nearly so successful. Many of the visitors were happy to know that the quilt show is still here and are looking forward to returning next year. It was a great show!”
