Lynn McCutchen, owner of Shooters Supply in Paducah, said he plans to expand his business into an 8,000-square-foot section of the mall in Eddyville by early August. McCutchen said he hopes to take possession of the first building on the right as one faces the mall by the last of May or June 1 and open for business about two months later.
Tim Beck, managing partner in a Mayfield investment firm that has signed a contract to buy the mall, announced Shooters Supply as the firm's first tenant Wednesday. Beck confirmed Monday that his firm has signed a contract to buy the mall with owner Randy Garciga of North Miami, Fla. He expects the deal to close within six weeks.
Local authorities were elated upon learning Shooters would expand into Eddyville.
"Good news on top of good news," said Judge-Executive Wade White, from a conference he is attending in Washington, D.C. "Shooters Supply is a place people will drive for very long distances. I know this is only a start, but it is a very important start to the revitalization of our mall. I think this is huge news for the economy of our county."
McCutchen said he is excited about expanding into Eddyville.
"We've been looking for a place to expand, and (Tim) is a good customer of ours," McCutchen added. "We have a big following for concealed carry and sports shooting (supplies) both gun and archery, and we are active in the 4-H shooting program.
"We will hire about 10 local people," he said, noting he has already a manager for the Eddyville store, but he declined to identify the employee.
