Services for Norman G. Pennington, 89, of Onton, formerly of Nortonville, were July 5 at Onton United Methodist Church with the Revs. Marty Robertson and Alonzo Pennington officiating. Burial followed July 6 at Pennington Cemetery in Christian County.

Mr. Pennington died July 2 at Princeton Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a graduate of the Henderson Barber College, 60-year member of the N.H. Shaw Lodge in Nortonville. He was a retired underground coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers Association, and a musician who played the fiddle and guitar and repaired stringed instruments.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Gamble Pennington, a daughter, Norma Rose Gamble, a brother, Richard E. Pennington and his step-father, Leonard Lester. His parents were Edward and Bessie Johnston Pennington.

Survivors are: his wife, Emojean Fridy Pennington of Slaughters, two sons, Eddie Pennington of Princeton, Larry Pennington of Drakesboro, two stepsons, Dr. Charles Martin of Lexington, Greg Fridy of Robards, a step-daughter Kathy Crowley of Onton, a brother, Wilford C. Lester of Nortonville, a sister, Dorothy Barnes of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several step-grand and step-great grandchildren.

Memorials may made to the Onton United Methodist Church Recreation Fund or to the Pennington Festival c/o Princeton Art Guild. Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville was in charge of arrangements.
