Edwina Smith, 90

Services for Edwina Smith, 90, of Eddyville were Nov. 2 at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville with the Rev. Tim Perdue officiating. Burial followed in Chestnut Oak Cemetery in Lyon County.

Mrs. Smith died Oct. 28 at her home following a short illness. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Eddyville.

Her parents were Henry Clay Rice, Jr. and Mattie Simmons Rice.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William “Bill” Smith; five sisters, Myrl White, Laney Milroy, Sara Conway, Margaret Oliver, Linnie Rice; two brothers, Feoney Rice, Jessup Rice; and a daughter, Sue Ellen Cheney.

Survivors are: two sons, Charles W. Smith Jr., and David A. Smith, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

David Griffin, 65

Graveside services for David Griffin, 65, of Crittenden County, were Nov. 3 at the Dycusburg Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Calkins officiating.

Mr. Griffin died Oct. 29 at his home following a short illness. He was a heavy equipment operator, a member of the Dycusburg Masonic Lodge, and also a member of the Dycusburg United Methodist Church.

His parents were William Thomas “Mutt” and Mary Lou Ramage Griffin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Griffin; and a brother, Dennis Griffin.

Survivors are: a son, Ben Griffin of Dycusburg; two daughters, Sherri Peek of Fredonia and Lori Kinnes of Salem; and two grandchildren.

George W. “G. W.” Holt, 88

Graveside services with military honors for George W. “G. W.” Holt, 88, of Grand Rivers, were Nov. 4 at Dixon Cemetery in Grand Rivers.

Mr. Holt died Oct.31 at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tenn. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran during World War II serving in the Pacific Theater. He was an equipment operator and belonged to the Operating Engineers Local No. 181 in Evansville, Ind.

His parents were George and Evylin Knig Holt.

He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne Eaton Holt, a brother, Ambruse Holt and a sister, Ethyl Holt.

Survivors are: a daughter, Phillias Sterett of Princeton; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Dunn’s Funeral Home in Eddyville was in charge of arrangements.
