Emma Talley, a Caldwell County High School graduate, Sunday won a tough match with Yueer Cindy Feng of Florida and took a 2-and-1 victory at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston in South Carolina.

Talley, who is 19 and a student at the University of Alabama, and Feng, 17, both get exemptions into the 2014 U.S. Women’s Open if they are both still amateurs.

The Princeton native came back with a birdie on the 10th hole and stayed in front of Feng the rest of the afternoon. The two swapped the lead throughout the day.

Talley’s father, Dan, is her caddie. Observers said he was a calming influence on his daughter as the match progressed.

Talley won three Kentucky state high school titles while at Caldwell County High School.

She qualified for the 2011 and 2012 U.S. Open before finishing tied for 46th in 2012.

In 2012 she was ranked the nation’s No. 1 recruit by Golfweek and has set multiple AJGA records.
