Three Lyon cheerleaders

perform at Capital One Bowl

Three Lyon County High School cheerleaders performed with Hunter Hayes at the Capital One Bowl last Wednesday in Orlando, Fla.

"It was kind of like a dance routine with Hunter Hayes; we performed with him to one of his songs," said Shea Duvall. "That was fun."

Duvall, Colie Huddleston and Mika Vickery, all 15-year-old sophomores, were named All American Cheerleaders at a camp here last summer. And that honor earned them the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Capital One Bowl, said Duvall's mother, Randa Putman.

"I think for five (All American Cheerleaders) to be coming from our squad really says a lot for our cheer program and the girls' attitudes," Putman said, noting that the girls were accompanied by Huddleston's mother, Mi'Chell Huddleston. "They all got to room together because she chose to go with the girls."

Duvall said the All American Cheerleaders had "really long practices after we got down there."

"We practiced eight hours a day," she said.

"They actually had to learn most of (the routine) at home before they went," said Putman, noting that they performed to Hayes' hit song "I Want Crazy."

"There was a 20-second clip of the performance on ABC," she said. "They were supposed to show the whole half-time performance on TV but they had some technical difficulties and by the time they were able to (fix it) there was only about a 20-second clip."

Two other Lyon cheerleaders — Anna Tullar, a senior, and Marisa Parker, a junior — were also named All American Cheerleaders during the camp but didn't participate in the Capital One Bowl performance. All five girls were eligible to perform along with about 400 other All American Cheerleaders from throughout the United States.

During their six-day stint in Orlando, the girls had an opportunity to have some fun by visiting Disney World and Universal Studios.
