The Lyon County Herald Ledger, in conjunction with the Marshall County Tribune-Courier and The Cadiz Record, will publish A Pictorial History of The Lakes Area. The Herald Ledger is looking for images of our county's history. Once collected, old photographs of The Lakes Area will be combined with historical narrative in A Pictorial History of The Lakes Area. A library-quality hardbound publication, A Pictorial History of The Lakes Area will feature up to 128 pages of pictures and history of The Lakes Area.
The proposed format includes all of information from all three counties, if photographs and information are available. The book will be printed on acid-free archival paper that will last for hundreds of years. Containing around 350 photos, these volumes will be ready by Christmas 2008.
The Herald Ledger is soliciting historic photographs from current and former residents of The Lakes Area. Contributors may mail in photographs with information attached (who, where, when and what is going on), or drop them by our office at 143 Main Street, Eddyville, and fill out a photo information form for each picture submitted.
Each contributor should write his name, address and phone number on the back of each photograph so it can be returned after the book is completed. For more information on submitting photographs, call The Herald Ledger at 270-388-2269.
A leather cover limited edition will be offered for those interested in a deluxe version. No more than 100 numbered leather-bound copies will be published. Each will include a numbered custom bookplate affixed to the inside cover. Copies of A Pictorial History of The Lakes Area may be ordered now. The advance order price is $29.95 plus $1.80 tax, a savings of $10.00 over the standard price of $39.95 plus $2.40 tax per copy. Limited editions are $75.00 plus $4.50 tax.
Contributors need not purchase books to have photographs considered. All submissions will be considered for inclusion, and the best quality or most historically representative photographs selected, if submissions exceed space. The book will be compiled and edited by the The newspaper staff.
