Both Fivestar Food Marts in Lyon County began selling packaged beer April 2. The sales follow the Jan. 15 referendum to repeal prohibition countywide. Lyon County Sheriff Kent Murphy, who also serves as the county’s Alcoholic Beverage Control officer, said it’s like to be closer to the end of the year before other types of packaged alcohol are available for sale.
“The others will probably be 6, 8 or even 10 months away because they go through a longer process,” Murphy said. But beer is an easy thing, they just have to meet their regulations.”
