The Madisonville Maroons, who entered the tournament as District 7 champions, will advance to the next round Friday, and take on the Hopkinsville Tigers, the top draw in the region.
The Lyons trailed from start to finish, but managed to stay well within range of an upset over the Maroons until the final minutes of the fourth quarter, when Madisonville pulled away for a 15-point margin at the end.
Lyon sophomore Jericho Wilkerson led the Lyons on the scoreboard with 14 points, and also doubled on the backboard with 12 rebounds.
Point guard Jordan Gary rang up 9 points for Lyon County, Tyler Martin added 5 points, Brandon White supplied 4, senior Thomas Scott, in his fi nal high school performance, added 3 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, and Zach Polston pitched in 1 point.
Nine Maroons added points to Madisonville-North Hopkins’ winning total, led
by junior Ross Thomas, with 16 points.
Both teams steered clear of foul trouble. Madisonville visited the free throw line 7
times and only gathered 5 points, while Lyon County stepped up to the charity stripe 3 times and picked up 3 points out of 6 shot attempts.
The Lyons produced 5 of its 14 field goals from beyond the 3-point arc; Madisonville shooters found the net 23 times from the floor, all in 2-point range.
Jericho Wilkerson and Thomas Scott earned “Player of the Game” recognition by WCCK radio following the game.
