Teams from Graves County, Paducah Tilghman, Hart County and others were on hand for this Kentucky High School Athletic Association event.
Brown’s round began slowly. Teeing off on the 374 yard 10thhole, a double bogey left him 2 over par after just one hole.
Brown settled into the round on his next two holes, paring the 170-yard par 3 11th, then chipping in from off the green to birdie the par 4 12thto get back to 1 over par through 3 holes.
Brown went on to birdie 5 more holes during his round, highlighted by the 318-yard 1sthole, his 10th, where his tee shot rolled up on the green and a 30-foot eagle putt missed by inches.
Brown’s 71 left him tied for the top spot with Graves County’s Hayden Cash and both were taken to the tee at the 18thhole for a playoff.
Both Cash and Brown hit fine tee shots that found the fairway, and both hit their secondshots into the front bunker after trying to reach the 505-yard par 5 in two. Cash, first to play from the bunker, left himself a 15-foot uphill putt. Brown played an excellent shot under pressure and had a 6-footer for his birdie.
After Cash missed his putt and tapped in for his par, the stage was set for Brown, who calmly stepped up and sank his 6-foot putt for his 7thbirdie of the day and the title.
Graves County took the team title.
