Bad hair days beware!

Eddyville Mayor John Choat gets a long-awaited trim from Steve Gilland on Tuesday morning. Tuesday was the first day Steve’s Barber Shop and many other area haircut providers and stylists in the state were open since March, when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all nonessential services and retailers. Shops could open Monday, but many remained closed in observance of Memorial Day. Choat, who is used to getting a haircut a couple times a month, was eager to get back on schedule. His daughter provided a trim in the interim, but Gilland has been his barber for more than 30 years. Gilland, cutting by appointment only to start, said a 15-minute trim will now take twice that because he must disinfect after every customer. His customers are required to bring their own mask and gloves.
