Cathy Crecelius (right), WPSD Local 6 director of promotion/public affairs, recently delivered fans collected during the LIVE Beat The Heat Day to Candace Melloy, executive director of Family Service Society. WPSD and BB&T Bank's Beat The Heat campaign collected more than 700 fans, topping last year's collection by 300 fans.

WPSD Local 6 and BB&T Bank partnered in June to provide fans for needy families in western Kentucky and southern Illinois. This year's Beat The Heat campaign collected more than 700 fans at BB&T offices in Paducah, Murray and Eddyville and at Salvation Army Thrift Stores in southern Illinois. That tops last year's total by more than 300 fans.

Additionally, WPSD Local 6 hosted a LIVE Beat The Heat Day on June 26 outside the television station offices in Paducah.

"The kindness of people in our area is absolutely amazing," said Cathy Crecelius, WPSD director of promotion/public affairs. "When WPSD puts out a call for assistance, people from all walks of life step forward to share their blessings with those who need it most. Now that temperatures are soaring into the 90s, these fans will provide welcome relief. Thank you to everyone who donated a fan!"

Local community service organizations distribute the fans in the areas in which they are collected.

Those organizations include Paducah Cooperative Ministry, Family Service Society and Salvation Army in Paducah; Needline in Murray; Family Resource Center in Eddyville; and Salvation Army Thrift Stores in Marion and Harrisburg, Illinois.
