“As newborn babes desire the sincere milk of the word that you may grow thereby” (I Peter 2:2). Growth in Christ is somewhat like a wagon wheel. We have many aspects of our faith that we must nurture to give us strength.
Just as the spokes on a wagon wheel go from the rim to the hub to give it strength, so also are Christian traits in our life to give us strength. If the spokes on any wheel are missing, then the wheel is weak and will break under a heavy load. Let me share with you six traits that will give you a balanced, growing testimony for Christ. These are not necessarily in order of priority, but all six attached to the hub (Christ) will make the sin (our Christian life) stronger as we roll along.
Go to God in prayer. Confess your sins! Keep the mud off our wheels. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9). Talk about a power wash! Praise God! Talk to God like He is with respect, for He is our Heavenly Father. We are to study the word of God and be ready to give an answer to the hope that is within us (Timothy 2:15 and I Peter 3:15).
If you do not study the word of God, how can you be an effective witness for Him? More than reading His word with our head, we must read it with our heart and meditate upon it day and night. The word of God is a commandment and a lamp. His laws are lights and reproofs of instruction of the ways of life (Proverbs 6:23). As a bonus, He tells us that if we read and obey His word, He will bless us and give us the Holy Ghost (Acts 5:32). So far, we go to God in prayer, read His word daily, obey what we read. I heard about what one politician said, “Oh, I believe the Bible, I just don’t let it affect my lifestyle.” For the child of God, that dog simply won’t hunt.
Fourthly, we are to believe that God will do what He says that He will do. John 16:24 reads, “That if you ask anything in My name, you shall receive that your joy may be full.” He says again in Matthew 21:22, “And all things, whatsoever, you shall ask in prayer, you shall receive.”
Do you really believe that God hears you and will answer your prayers according to His will? Believe it and you will enter into His joy and peace.
