For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness, but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

The world’s wisdom won’t ever understand the teachings of God. The world by wisdom knows not God! The world thinks it is foolishness to preach the salvation message. The world seeks a sign, but we preach a crucified risen savior that is a stumbling block to the unsaved. The fact that common ordinary men are used to preach the gospel is a real puzzle to those who are worldly wise! Jesus does this so that He will receive all glory. When Jesus was talking to Nicodemus, He was explaining the things to be spiritually understood. In the next chapter, the mystery of a lack of understanding the Word of God is revealed. He tells us that spiritual understanding comes from being spiritual. I am not writing about self-righteousness or holier than thou. I am sharing that one is made holy by the imputed righteousness of Christ. For God hath made Jesus sin for us, that we may not know or be justified by His sinless life. Holiness is in a person. The person of the Lord Jesus. Nothing less will do (II Corinthians 5:21). Receiving those two chapters in their context, we see then the unsaved man cannot understand the spiritual things of God, for they are spiritually deceived!
