Do you remember the time when the hymns of old centered around the blood of our Lord Jesus? Hymns such as “There is a Fountain Filled with Blood”; “There is Power in the Blood,’’ and “What Can Wash Away My Sins? Nothing But the Blood of Jesus.”
Very few churches today still preach as a priority the precious blood of Jesus. And yet, the Bible tells us that to appropriate the blood of Jesus by faith is the only way one can be redeemed. Ephesians 1:7 reads, “In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” Hebrews 9:22b reads, “And without the shedding of blood is no remission.” We are sanctified by the blood (I Corinthians 1:30). The blood of Jesus, precious blood, redeems us (I Peter 1:8-19). The blood of Jesus cleanses us if we walk in the light (I John 1:7).
Old Testament types were for our example to teach us truths. Leviticus chapter one and six bring us one of the clearest pictures of salvation. Notice that the burnt offering by Moses and Aaron and the priests show us a panoramic view of God’s love for us!
God spoke to Moses, giving him instructions to give to the people how to come to God (Leviticus 1:1). When the prophets of old spoke, it was incumbent upon the people to listen. It is just so today as we see men with beautiful feet preaching the word of God (II Peter 1:21; Romans 10:15; and Isaiah 52:7). When God’s men preach today, it is still necessary for you to hear and obey (John 12:48, John 14:21, Luke 6:46-49). Maybe the reason many do not heed what the pastors preach is because they don’t believe it themselves when they preach. Pastors, preach like if the Lord called you home during your sermon, you would not be ashamed to finish it face to face with Him. God’s Holy Spirit convicts us all of sin.
Realizing the guilt and penalty of sin the children of Israel would bring an offering. There was a certain way that was God directed. Instructions were given that had to be followed to the letter. It is just the same today. There is but one way to obtain forgiveness and only one who can forgive sins (Mark 27; Luke 5:21). Jesus says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6). Neither is there salvation in any other name except Jesus (Acts 4:12). For there is only one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus (I Timothy 2:5).
He is able to save to the uttermost those who by faith regret, repent and receive Him as Savior (Romans 10:9-10)
