A Lyon County native has been named new chief financial officer at Usher Transport Inc., company President Ryan Usher announced recently.
David Guess, former executive vice president for Usher Transport, was promoted to his new role on March 24. Guess grew up in Kuttawa, where his parents, Charles and Shirley Guess, still live.
“In the new role of CFO, attention to detail, strategy, and execution of plans, is something I’ve been training for throughout my entire career,” said Guess. “I’m both excited and humbled to be asked to serve in such high-trust capacity as CFO for a multimillion-dollar organization.”
Usher Transport is based in Louisville, but the company has long-held ties to western Kentucky dating back to 1946 with their Paducah office. The Paducah terminal remains in operation today, servicing the chemical and oil industry. Usher Transport trucks are frequently seen traveling through Lyon County.

He joined the company in March 1999 and has held several leadership roles within the organization. As executive vice president, his role encompassed oversight of the company’s risk management, human resources, insurance and corporate strategy. In 1999, Guess left Usher Transport to work in the general commodities freight sector, but returned to Usher Transport in August 2009.
Guess holds degrees from Murray State University, Indiana Wesleyan University and the University of the Cumberlands, which include two masters and two doctoral degrees.
He is currently in the final stages of earning a third doctoral degree from the University of the Cumberlands in strategic management.

His wife, Sheila, is a 1992 graduate of the University of Kentucky and Arcadia University and serves as a doctor of physical therapy and clinical director for KORT Physical Therapy. The couple has two children, Kaitlyn, 17, and Christian, 15.
