Kentucky State Police have released the names of Monday evening's shooting victims in Lyon County, as well as further information on the incident.

According to a release, Talonna S. McCormick, 72, of Eddyville was killed in a murder-suicide by her husband, William H. "Bill" McCormick, also of Eddyville. The investigation revealed both were suffering from other medical conditions.

On Monday around 6 p.m., state police responded to a report of the shooting at a residence on U.S. 62 east of Eddyville at the request of Lyon County Sheriff's Department. The investigation revealed Sheriff Brent White responded to the home with Adult Protective Services to conduct a welfare check on Talonna McCormick. When White arrived, he heard gunshots from inside the house.

Officers entered the home and found Bill McCormick in medical distress from a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest. He was unable to be kept alive. His wife was found dead at the scene from a close-range gunshot to the chest.

State police conducted the investigation, gathering evidence and processing the scene. An autopsy was performed Tuesday on both subjects by the state medical examiners officer in Madisonville.

Both Bill and Talonna McCormick were former public school teachers in Lyon and Crittenden counties. He had also been a Church of Christ minister and concealed carry deadly weapons instructor.

KSP Detective Michael Robichaud continues to investigate this incident. State police were assisted at scene by the sheriff's department, Eddyville Police Department, Lyon County EMS and Lyon County Coroner's Office.
