A head-on collision on U.S. 62 near Hopewell Church Road claimed the life of a Kuttawa man shortly after 2:30 p.m. Friday, according to Lyon County Sheriff Brent White.

Sheriff’s reports indicate a pickup truck driven by Billy G. Colley, 48, of Mayfield, was westbound on U.S. 62 when it crossed into the eastbound lane and collided with a sport utility vehicle driven by Elizabeth A. Aldridge, 76, of Kuttawa. A passenger in the SUV, Thomas G. Aldridge, 81, Kuttawa, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lyon County coroner.

Authorities said Aldridge attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The vehicles collided head-on in the center of the highway. All occupants in both vehicles were wearing a seatbelt, according to the sheriff’s report.

Colley was taken by Livingston County Emergency Medical Services to Baptist Health in Paducah. He was later taken to a Nashville, Tennessee, area hospital. Elizabeth Aldridge was attended to by Caldwell County EMS and flown from the scene to an Evansville, Indiana, area hospital.

Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Lyon County EMS, Kuttawa Fire Department, Caldwell County EMS, Livingston County EMS, Air Evac, the Lyon County Coroner, the State Highway Department, and Stinnett’s Wrecker Service.

U.S. 62 was closed from Dustin Road to Barkley Dam Road for approximately three hours. The road reopened around 5:30 p.m.
