Who is surely Lyon County’s oldest resident is celebrating a birthday today (Wednesday).

Ruth Harrington turns 109 today, and River’s Bend Retirement Community in Kuttawa is planning a drive-by birthday party for the woman. The senior living facility will host a parade of well-wisher designed to meet social distancing requirements amid the COVID-19 outbreak and give Harrington an opportunity to watch the caravan pass by.

Harrington was born on a farm in Tennessee on May 6, 1911.

She and her late husband Paul Harrington married in 1927 and had seven children.

The couple moved to Kentucky in the 1950s and opened well-known Calvert City Drive-In, drawing locals from all over western Kentucky for movies and the best burgers around.

Local elected officials, emergency services personnel and friends and family will join the parade. Cars will line up in the parking lot of Kuttawa First Baptist Church 1:30 p.m. and drive past River’s Bend, where Harrington will be waiting outside at 2 p.m.
