Nicky Baker (right), a founding member of the Caldwell/Lyon County Cattlemen's Association, was recently inducted into the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association Hall of Fame at the group's annual convention in Owensboro.

A longtime area cattleman was honored with hall of fame induction recently during this year's Evening Banquet at the Kentucky Cattlemen's Association (KCA) Annual Convention in Owensboro.

Nicky Baker is a fifth-generation farmer and operates Baker Stock Farm in Fredonia. He has owned the farm for 45-plus years and currently runs 60 head of cattle on this farm. He is also involved in several other cattle operations.

Baker is a founding member of the Caldwell/Lyon County Cattlemen's Association and has been involved on the cooking team for the past 20 years. The money earned from these cooking events helps the county association pay for three $500 scholarships annually.

Baker also helped organize farm visits and tours for local elementary schools for about 10 years.

He enjoyed educating children on agriculture and teaching them more about where their food comes from.

"Baker is a pillar in his community and is always willing to help another farmer when needed," according to a release from KCA.

In addition to his work in the cattle industry, he is long-time member and elder at Fredonia Cumberland Presbyterian Church and donates his time to the Wounded Warrior Outdoors, which gives active duty military the opportunity to go on hunting and fishing trips after suffering combat injuries.

Baker has been married to his wife Gary Beth for 36 years and they have two children and five grandchildren.

Baker joins Royce Vincent of Edmondson County, Jon Bednarski of Oldham County, Preston Seals of Berea and the late Gatliff Craig of Rockcastle County as KCA's 2020 Hall of Fame inductees.

Videos of the 2020 inductees can be viewed on the KCA YouTube and Facebook pages.

Applications are now being taken for the 2021 KCA Hall of Fame.
