Starting next week, Lyon County Skills U, the local adult education program, will be closed at least through the end of the month due to coronavirus concerns. Coordinator Natalie McPherson said the closure, like many other responses to the virus, is unprecedented.

"This closing for illness is new to us," she said. "We don’t even close for snow days like other schools."

Adult education centers will use the time to thoroughly clean their facilities, check files for accuracy and create new lesson plans. Workers will also be calling, emailing or FaceTiming students to answer questions.

To keep current students on track toward completion, Coordinator Natalie McPherson will be creating workbook packets for students without internet access and will be delivering them within the next week. Students with internet will be enrolled in the online programs available.

"If I have walk in students, I will advise them on how we will proceed with the program," McPherson said.
