From 1979 to 2008, Princeton hosted the tastes of Dilly Bars, Blizzards and other cool treats from Dairy Queen.
Eleven years after that restaurant closed, DQ is returning to Princeton on Marion Road near the Interstate 69 interchange as a Dairy Queen Grill and Chill.
The restaurant is scheduled to have a “soft” opening June 30 at the 305 Marion Road site.
“The real estate and property are amazing, and we were able to easily retrofit the building,” said Tiffany Olson, director of marketing at Fourteen Foods, the multi-unit owner of 227 Dairy Queen locations, including the Princeton site. “The city and local partners have been amazing to work with and have made the process smooth.”
Olson said the general manager will be Travis Miles, a current Fourteen Foods Dairy Queen general manager within the state, and there are more than 70 local employees who will fill the restaurant’s roster.
The restaurant will sport separate “Grill” and “Chill” areas, featuring a drive-through window and patio seating as well as a full dining room. It will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday.
“This location will also have delivery available through DoorDash,” Olson said.
Dairy Queen will host an official grand opening in mid-July.
“We’ll open bright and early on June 30,,” Olson said. “We’ll have a little more fun with formal VIP and grand opening events come mid-July or early August.”
She said there were many factors that drew the Fourteen Foods-owned Dairy Queen to Princeton.
“Well, one, the community is amazing,” she said. “We are the franchisee for over 40 DQ restaurants within Kentucky, so the state is near and dear to our heart.
“We’re also a faith-based company and very community-centric, and had many contacts speak very highly of the close-knit community.”
