Michael Carrol Farmer, age 80 of Fredonia, died peacefully at home after a brief struggle with cancer. Mr. Farmer was born on September 23, 1938 in Murray; the only child of Anderson Carrol Farmer and Zela Steele Farmer both deceased.
Mr. Farmer graduated from Murray High School in 1957. He graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in education. He taught industrial arts at Southern Junior High School in Owensboro. Mr. Farmer left teaching to pursue his love of western Kentucky water land to build and operate Buzzard Rock Resort and Marina on Lake Barkley as a home for his rental houseboat business. Upon retirement, he moved to Fredonia in rural Caldwell County to garden, hunt, fish and watch beautiful sunsets.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Carter Farmer; three daughters, Jacqueline Kearns (Kerry) of Nicholasville, Ky., Michele Edwards (Russell) of Marion, Ky., and Ashley Schnittker (Doug) of Bloomington, Ill.; four grandchildren, Mickey Schnittker, Maggie Schnittker (Steve Perkins), John Kearns, Wesley Kearns, 1 great grandchild, Wyatt Perkins ; 2 step grandchildren Cameron Edwards (Erin), and Sara Edwards Risley (Dusty), and 6 step great grandchildren.
The family expresses special thanks to close neighbors and friends who provided love and support during his illness.
In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. In honor of his dog “Buddy”, expressions of sympathy may be directed to Mary Hall Ruddiman Animal Shelter, 24 Just A Mere Road, Marion, KY 42064.
