‘And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive; I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are of the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you in prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days; be thou faithful unto death, and I will give unto thee a crown of life. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit sayeth unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.’

Biblical prophesy is history written in advance. We have the sure word of prophesy (II Peter 1:19). Man does not dictate to the prophets of old, nor the preachers of the present, who are called of God! A candidate running for president of the United Sates said that the Holy Bible is outdated and needs to be made politically correct. The scriptures are a mirror of who we are, and when we look into it, the sharp two edged sword that is, we see a cracked, disfigured, distorted image of what we would like to appear. Be of good cheer, God only uses flawed individuals, only a broken vessel will do! Like Jacob, we have to walk with a limp before we can have power with God and man. Too much ‘feel good and easy believism’ pervades our pulpits. the preachers are giving counsel but not of God! Committees within the churches say, ‘Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits (Isaiah 30:10).

What will the end results be to the church who holds fast to the faith once for all delivered unto the saints? People will not be knocking down the doors to get in! In the eyes of the world it will be contemptible, but in the eyes of God it will be commended! The Smyrna church was the richest little poor church in town. Faith tried pure as God, they were willing to suffer for their Savior! Soon, and very soon, we may be called upon to do the same!
