Early lead launches Fort Campbell past Lyons

Lyon County’s Timothy Taylor works the ball against Fort Campbell, a game the Lyons would drop 2-1.

Two back-to-back goals just two minutes apart were all that it took to launch Fort Campbell’s first win of the season last Tuesday over the Lyon County Lyons, 2-1.

Aiden Blaszkowski planted one inside the left goal post on a penalty kick 18 minutes into play to give Fort Campbell the early 1-0 lead.

Just two minutes later, Fort Campbell’s Leon King found the net, working off a pass from Lyon County’s Brayden Guess, giving the Falcons a 2-0 advantage.

With just three minutes left in the first half, Lyon County’s Timothy Stewart Taylor scored on a direct kick after a handball was called in the box, cutting the score 1-2.

Lyon County’s Levi Willis nearly evened the score when he caught the goalie out and tried to slip one in, but Falcon defense deflected the shot.

Lyon County almost tripled their shots on goal during the second half compared to the first half, putting enough pressure on Fort Campbell that they decided to make a goal keeper change. It didn’t matter. Lyon never managed to find the net in the second half.

Luke Gilbert added eight saves to the books bringing him to a total of 192 saves for the season.

The Lyons now drop to 1-11 this season with their only win against Fort Campbell’s season opener, Aug. 24. The Lyons will take a week off and be back on the road to Muhlenberg County on Sept. 20.
