The Lyon County Lady Lyons (7-11) played in their second to last game of the 2019 regular season and made the most of it, taking down Mayfield 7-1 to spoil the Lady Cardinals' senior night.
Lyon County ended a six-game losing streak dating back to Sept. 12 and scored the most goals they've had since Aug. 23 when they beat Mayfield 7-2 in Eddyville to advance to 4-1.
Rose Smith scored five of the seven goals for Lyon County, and senior Emily Smith scored two as Lyon County took a 4-0 command into halftime at Bill Hale Soccer Field.
Rose Smith put Lyon County up 1-0 in the 20th before two more in the 24th and 25th minutes gave Smith her hat trick.
Emily Smith scored in the 33rd off a corner kick from Rose Smith, then Rose Smith's fourth goal made it 5-0 in the 45th.
Mayfield midfielder Grace Dobrose got the Lady Cardinals on the board in the 54th, but Emily Smith came right back and helped Lyon take a much-needed 7-1 triumph.
Emily Smith, Rose Smith, Crista Cummins and MaKenzie Lewis all picked up an assist for Lyon County, while Jordyn Schofield collected 10 keeper saves in the net in her first game at goalie this season in the place of Abby Smith.
Lyon v. Muhlenberg, 7-0
On Thursday, Lyon County's Lyons and Lady Lyons closed out the 2019 regular season.
Lyon County fell to Muhlenberg 7-0 on Tuesday night after a much needed bounce back win at Mayfield on Monday.
The Lady Lyons (7-12) had just snapped a six-game losing streak in their 7-1 win over the Lady Cardinals, but got shut out for the fourth time this year in the regular season finale.
Muhlenberg County (10-9-1) won their fourth out of their last six games.
Lyon County will now look to the District 5 tournament when they meet Crittenden County in the semifinals on Monday in Cadiz.
Trigg County will play the winner Tuesday in the title game.
Rose Smith scored 36 goals during the regular season with one assist, Sydney Hoffman scored five goals with three assists in 19 games, Crista Cummins contributed three goals and Emily Smith had two goals and six assists during the regular season.
Goalie Abby Smith stands with 192 keeper saves (averaging 11 per game) entering the District 5 Tournament this week at Trigg County.
