An early goal wasn’t enough to stop the Lyon County Lady Lyons from racking up their 5th straight season win. The Lady Lyons, now 7-1, picked up the 2-1 victory on the road last Thursday night against Trigg County
It was a hard fought win as the Lady Lyons were blanked the entire first half, with the only goal coming from Laina Hite on an assist from Allie Hill.
The Lady Wildcats held the 1-0 lead until nearly 20 minutes into the second half. Rose Smith, who had multiple defenders on her at all times, finally broke free for an unassisted shot on the goal to tie the game 1-1.
With just 3 minutes left in the game and talk of a tie breaker shootout began to surface, Rose Smith found Leah Schroeder in goal position near the right post. Schroeder knocked the ball into the opposite corner for the game winning goal.
The Lady Lyons out-shot the Lady Wildcats 22-12, with Lyon goalkeeper Maddie Russell credited with 11 saves. The teams will meet again at Lee S. Jones park on Sept. 14, for the second installment of 5th district action.
