The Lyon County Lady Lyons dropped both games in a doubleheader with the Union County Bravettes on Thursday night, April 20 in Eddyville.
The Lady Lyons lost 12-2 and 19-8.
In the opening game, Lyon managed two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Consecutive singles from Lilly Perry, Jenna Coursey and Destiny Cayce gave Lyon County their first run of the night. With just one out, Brenna Breitrick capitalized on an error, plating Coursey and giving the Lyons momentum. But just as quickly as it started, it ended on a double play at second.
Union only out-hit Lyon 6-4 with most of the Bravettes’ runs coming from errors.
Despite the loss, Lyon warmed up from the plate in the second game with 11 hits. Union led 7-0 when Lyon countered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Cayce led off with a solo home run, followed by Emma Brasher with an RBI double. Olivia Moore knocked in two with a single to left, while Lauren Davis reached on an error to drive in the final run to make it 7-5.
Nine runs in the sixth inning sealed the fate of the Lady Lyons. Miley Mosley finished off the big inning with a two-run homer to give Union the 18-5 lead.
Courtney Collins added two runs with a double to left field, but the Lady Lyons netted just three runs in the inning, falling way short of what was needed for a comeback.
Cayce finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Piper Cotham was 2-for-3, including a triple and a scored run.
Union has won all three matchups this season by double digits.
