Freshman Jaiden Koch posted a career-high 24 points paired with a big night from freshman Sayler Lowe, who posted 29 points and 12 rebounds, to give the Lady Lakers their biggest win of the season over the Lyon County Lady Lyons on Monday, Feb. 13 in Eddyville. Sophomore Jaycee Crouch also posted her best game of the season with 17 points that included five 3-pointers. Koch and Crouch shot a combined 9-for-16 from long range in the 80-47 triumph.
While Lyon County’s Piper Cotham scored the first basket of the game, it would be the only time the Lady Lyons would hold the lead. Lowe led the Lady Lakers to a 17-10 advantage after the first eight minutes.
Back-to-back baskets from Courtney Collins broke a 9-0 run to make it 26-14. Lexi Holland responded to a put back from Lowe to keep things close at 30-17. Lilly Perry’s drive through the lane trimmed the Calloway lead to 31-19, but Lowe converted a free throw into a three-point play followed by Koch’s 3-pointer grew the lead, 37-19, with seconds until the break. Perry’s halftime buzzer beater cut it to 15-point deficit for the Lady Lyons, 37-22.
The Lady Lyons matched up Lowe much better the second half, limiting her to a pair of field goals. That’s when Koch took over hitting four three’s to score 14 of the teams 29 third quarter points, extending the Lady Lakers’ lead to 66-36 going into the final frame.
Lyon County finally managed to get Lowe and Crouch under control, but it was too little too late as a running clock would finish the final four minutes of the game faster than anticipated. A three from Cotham with 1:26 left would end the contest with a final 33- point margin.
Holland led the Lady Lyons with 15 points. Cotham was the only other Lady Lyon in double figures with 11. Collins led the Lady Lyons’ rebounding efforts with six boards.
The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Lady Lakers as it marked a two-game losing streak for the Lady Lyons.
