Piper Cotham plays defense in the Lady Lyons’ 66-42 win over University Heights last week.

The Lyon County Lady Lyons saw a short two-game winning streak after a 66-52 win over University Heights Academy on Tuesday night, Feb. 7 in Hopkinsville.

Lyon County buried four 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 21-11 lead. Trinity Taylor posted eight points, two steals and two assists to lead the Lady Lyon attack.

The tough defensive pressure limited UHA to just nine points from LeeLee Love and Kennady Quarles, while Piper Cotham and Taylor added 12 combined points to the Lady Lyons’ double-digit lead. By halftime, the Lady Lyons’ advantage had grown to 37-20.

Two three’s from Cotham helped match a 10-point run from Love as the Lady Blazers answered every third quarter point the Lady Lyons put up. A basket by Lilly Perry with just seconds left in the third quarter made it 52-35 in favor of the Lady Lyons.

Quarles hit three 3-pointers to give UHA a fourth quarter boost. Despite Quarles’ sharp shooting and a fourth quarter rally from Alecia Davis for six points, Lyon County held on for the 14-point win.

Cotham scored 20 points to lead the Lady Lyons, while Taylor added 19. Taylor also had nine rebounds. Lexi Holland chipped in nine and Perry had eight. Ella DeFew grabbed eight rebounds to go with four points.

Love finished with 23 points for UHA. Quarles scored 17. Alicia Davis also hit double figures with 12.
