The Lady Lyons picked up their first win of the season 6-5 over the Calloway County Lady Lakers on Thursday night, March 30 at Lee S. Jones ballpark. Tied 5-5 going into the bottom of the seventh, a ground out from Piper Cotham with no outs on the board drove in Lauren Davis to end things in dramatic walk-off fashion.
Calloway took the early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. Lyon countered with a double from Lilly Perry scoring one run.
Lyon had a productive fifth inning to take the 5-2 lead. Brenna Breitrick scored on a passed ball to tie the game at 2-2. An error at second base allowed Courtney Collins’ hard hit ground ball to add two more. Perry followed Collins to add insurance with a single to center field, driving in one more run in the key inning.
Calloway capitalized on an error to tie things up in the top of the seventh with Preslee Phillips on third and Sophie Lax on second threatening to take the lead, but Perry struck out Emerson Grogan to end the inning.
Perry proved crucial to the victory, picking up the win in the circle as well as leading up the Lady Lyons’ offense. In the circle, Perry threw seven innings allowing five runs, three of them earned, on 11 hits while striking out four and walking one. She went 3-for-3 from the plate with a double and two RBIs. Davis was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Olivia Moore went 2-for-3.
