Despite holding an 8-0 lead for the first five innings, it took an eighth inning for the Lady Lyons to ground the Lady Falcons at 10-8 on Friday, April 22. A five-run bottom of the seventh tied things up 8-8 and forced the game into extra innings.

Calista Collins took advantage of a good opportunity, scoring on a dropped third strike to give the Lady Lyons back the lead, 9-8. Hadlie Butler added some insurance, 10-8, scoring on Courtney Collins’ sacrifice bunt to first.

Lyon County shot out to a 3-0 lead with a double from Calista Collins and RBI singles from Lilly Perry and Emma West. Courtney Collins homered on a fly ball to center in the top of the second to make it 4-0. West hit a three-run long ball in the fifth, scoring Jenna Coursey and Courtney Collins to make it a 7-0 Lyon County lead. Lyon County rounded out the top of the sixth with Courtney Collins’ RBI single making it 8-0.

Singles from Carly Boaz, Emma Grissom, and Rancey Skaggs paired with a Lyon County error cut the lead to 8-3 in the bottom of the sixth.

Five hits finished off with doubles from Grissom earned the Lady Falcons four more runs and closed the gap to 8-7. Blair Byassee’s fly ball double to left sent courtesy runner Ann White home to tie things up at 8-8. Byassee was on third and Boaz on second when Jaiden Capello snagged Allie Allen’s fly ball to right to end the inning before any more damage was done.

After taking the lead in the top of the eighth, the Lyon County defense held up the two-run lead. All three hits never made it past Butler at second, who kept the Lady Lyon win intact.

West and Lilly Perry split the win with each tossing four innings. Perry got the start in the circle, surrendering zero runs on four hits and striking out one. West allowed eight runs on 10 hits, while also striking out one and only walking one.

West led the Lady Lyons, going 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs. Calista Collins was also 3-for-4 with a home run and four runs scored. Courtney Collins finished out the night 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
