Home run

The Lyon County Lady Lyons celebrate a Courtney Collins home run in their 15-0 win over Bowling Green.

The Lady Lyons went 1-for-2 at the Muhlenberg Stampede. The game-opening 15-0 shutout win over Bowling Green, which is the biggest win for the Lady Lyons this season, was quickly overshadowed by a 10-9 loss to Trinity Whitesville and a 14-8 loss to the Owensboro Lady Devils on Saturday, April 22.

It took the Lady Lyons just three innings to put the Purples away. The Lady Lyons scored four runs in the first inning that was highlighted by a double from Destiny Cayce.

Singles from Olivia Moore and Jenna Coursey paired with Owensboro errors and walks made it 10-0 by the end of the second inning. Courtney Collins knocked her first home run of the season out of the park to finish off the 15-0 final score.

Destiny Cayce took over in the circle after Lilly Perry left the game for an injury. She pitched the final 1.1 innings. Perry pitched the opening 1.2 innings allowing just one hit, striking out one and walking one.

TRINITY WHITESVILLE 10, LYON COUNTY 9

In a close contest with Trinity Whitesville, the Lady Lyons fell behind early and never were able to catch up.

Down 6-0 after three innings, the Lady Lyons got a three-run homer from Collins to cut the Lady Raiders’ lead 6-4. The Lady Raiders responded with four more runs in the top of the last inning to stretch the lead out 10-5.

A late two-out rally from the Lady Lyons netted five singles to score four runs and cut the lead 10-9, but a ground out to first left the game-tying run sitting on second.

Cayce pitched the four of the five innings of the game with Collins coming in relief for the final inning.

Moore was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Coursey finished 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Collins was 1-for-3 with the home run and three RBIs.

OWENSBORO 14, LYON COUNTY 8

The final game with the Owensboro started with the Lady Devils taking a 10-0 lead after just two innings. Brenna Breitrick drove in a run in the bottom of the second to make it 10-1 and the Lady Lyons added three more runs in the bottom of the third with Collins’ third home run of the day, making it 10-4.

Owensboro put up four more runs in the fourth inning for a 10-run lead, giving the Lady Lyons one last chance to put five runs on the board to keep the game alive. The Lady Lyons managed four runs, but back-to-back ground outs claimed the final two batters for a final score 14-8 in favor of the Lady Devils.

Collins led the Lady Lyons. She went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Moore was also 2-for-3 with two RBI. Cayce finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI.
