The recent warmer weather has people ready to get outdoors, and Land Between the Lakes is ready to help. On March 1, many of the attractions and outdoor spaces begin to open up again for the season.
According to LBL, the Nature Station kicks off the season with an Opening Day Backyard Blast. Guests can join naturalists for a behind the scenes tour where they will meet animals and learn about their care. The event is set for 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. on March 1.
The Homeplace is also open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday through the month of March. It will be on a seven day a week schedule beginning in April, according to LBL.
LBL also offers volunteer opportunities for people looking for motivation to get outside. On Saturday, April 15, there will be a Turkey Bay Clean Up Day from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will help with some activities, such as picking up trash and trimming limbs along the trails. They are welcome to bring their off road vehicles, but there are easily accessible areas that also need clean up.
There will also be another work day on Saturday, April 22 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Canal Loop Trail. Volunteers will help with trash pick up, trimming and pruning of vegetation and some tread work to reduce erosion.
Volunteers for both events are asked to bring their own water and lunch and to also wear close-toed shoes. Hand tools, trash bags, gloves and other protective equipment will be provided. People interested are asked to contact volunteer@friendsoflbl.org or 270-924-2007.
