Brady Shoulders drives to the basket for a layup on his way to a 21-point performance in Lyon County’s 80-38 blowout over Trigg County.

Lyon County put on quite a show for Purdue head coach Matt Painter in their 80-38 blowout victory over Trigg County on Friday night, Jan. 20 in Eddyville. The coach of the No. 1 college team in the nation looked on as the trio of Travis Perry, Brady Shoulders and Jack Reddick cruised to a 31-12 lead after just eight minutes.

A 10-0 run stretching the final four minutes of the second quarter was ended by a 3-pointer from Luke Washer to cut the Lyons’ lead to 49-23 at the buzzer. It would be the closest the Wildcats would be for the remainder of the game.

Without the team’s leading scorer and re-bounder, Jhaden Vaughn who is out for an ankle injury, the Lyons dominated, outscoring the Wildcats at 24-10 in the third quarter, allowing the Lyons’ lead to grow to 73-33 heading into the final frame. The Lyons had built such a large lead, Coach Ryan Perry pulled the starting five early, allowing for extended time from the bench.

Aside from his 31 points, Perry had seven steals and six assists while shooting 13-of-18 from the field.

Shoulders added 21 points and nine rebounds, and Reddick chipped in with 18 points and 10 assists for Lyon County.

The win secured Lyon a No. 1 seed in the district tournament.

Hunter Reynolds led Trigg County with 13 points, and Landon Stewart and Washer each scored 10 points.
