Johnny Binghman connects at-bat for a homer to give the Lyons a 1-0 lead which led to a 7-2 region tournament victory over University Heights.

The Lyon County Lyons used a 7-2 win over University Heights to advance to the semi-final round of the Second Region tournament.

The highly anticipated matchup showcased home runs from Johnny Bingham and Eli Baker and a four hit performance from Brady Belt on the mound. Belt, who touts a 1.14 ERA, got his sixth win of the season allowing just two runs in a complete game performance while striking out five.

Bingham’s solo home run put the Lyons up 1-0 in the first inning. Baker and Belt each had an RBI single in the second and third innings to make it 3-0 Lyon lead.

The Blazers got a little too close for comfort in the top of the fourth when a Lyon County error and a walked batter were sandwiched between a Jackson Flynn single to load the bases. Ian Tyler and Gavin LaRonge followed up with back-to-back singles to cut the Lyon’s lead 3-2.

A botched pick off attempt in the bottom of the inning allowed the Lyons breathing room with Spears stealing home to make it 4-2.

The Lyons big three-run fifth inning came as Josh Pace entered in relief of UHA starting pitcher Ian Tyler. Peyton Carney was walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Drew Richie. Austin Spears tripled Richie home on a line drive deep into center field. Eli Baker closed out the inning with a two run homer before Pace could retire the last two batters for the final 7-2 score.

Aiden Waters led the Lyon offense. He was 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Spears went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and an RBI. Eli Baker finished 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored.
