The Lyon County Lyons finished up Fifth District play undefeated after a 7-4 win over the Trigg County Wildcats on Wednesday night, May 3 at the Trigg County Complex in Cadiz.
Lyon, who led 2-0 through five innings, fell behind 4-2 following a four-run surge from the Wildcats in the bottom of the fifth. The timing was right for a big five-run sixth inning to secure the Fifth District top seed.
Eli Baker stole home on a Trigg County catcher’s error in the top of the fourth to give Lyon the 1-0 edge. Another Trigg error allowed the Lyons to extend that lead 2-0 in the top of the fifth.
Trigg had just two hits in the wild bottom of the fifth that netted the Wildcats four runs and the 4-2 lead. Singles from Joiner and Leeper paired with a host of Lyon miscues made for a tough inning for the Lyons.
The Lyons pulled it together for the big sixth inning capped off by a two-run double from Eli Baker for the final 7-4 score.
Austin Spears claimed the win for Lyon. Spears threw a complete game with zero earned runs on just two hits, striking out six while walking four.
Spears and Baker were the only Lyons to get multiple hits in the contest. Spears was 2-for-3 with a triple and a RBI and a run scored. Baker was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
