The Lyon County Lyons used a big first quarter lead to defeat Madisonville-North Hopkins 75-58 Tuesday night, Feb. 7 in Eddyville.
Lyon County turned a quick 15-6 lead into a 29-14 margin after just eight minutes. Free throws by Travis Perry put the Lyons up by as much as 40-19 with just over three minutes left in the first half. A three from Perry at the buzzer sent the Lyons into the break with a 45-27 advantage.
Tre Carney, TaMarcus Eaves and Christopher Watkins combined for 15 points in the third quarter, just one point shy of Perry and the Lyons. Carney answered Brady Shoulders’ basket in the final seconds for the 61-42 margin going into the final eight minutes.
While the Maroons did manage to outscore the Lyons 16-14 in the final quarter, the lead the Lyons built in the first quarter would stand. The Lyons shot 8-for-9 from the line in the final frame and 11-for-14 overall to ensure the win.
Perry finished the night with 33 points. Jack Reddick added 20 for the Lyons. Shoulders posted a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Eaves was the leading scorer for the Maroons with 25 points. Watkins was the only other Madisonville player to reach double figures with 12. He also posted 11 rebounds.
