The Muhlenberg County Lady Mustangs broke a 0-0 tie in the top of the fourth to eventually take a 8-5 win over the Lyon County Lady Lyons on Monday night, March 20 in Eddyville.
After a pitchers’ duel left the board blank for three straight innings, Muhlenberg paired a walk with three singles to take the 2-0 lead. Lyon pitcher Lilly Perry forced a ground out to end the inning. Muhlenberg scored two more in the top of the fifth. Taylor Wilkins’ double drove in the last of two runs before Sophia Wilkins was out advancing home to end the rally.
A double from Olivia Moore kicked off a big fifth inning for the Lady Lyons. A sacrifice fly and then a single from Lauren Davis drove in a pair of runs to cut the deficit 4-2.
A sixth-inning surge from the Mustangs featured a two-run homer from Arby Carver to make it an 8-2 game with just one inning left to play. Five singles netted Lyon County three runs, but the run ended abruptly when Mustang pitcher Ava Carver forced a ground out to first to end the momentum.
Olivia Moore went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Lyons, while Lauren Davis was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Lyon totaled seven hits in the game.
Muhlenberg totaled 17 hits. Perry took the loss, throwing all seven innings. She allowed eight runs on 17 hits, while striking out two and walking four.
Carter claimed the win for the Mustangs. In seven innings, she allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking zero.
