Timothy Stewart

Lyon County senior Timothy Stewart dribbles his way down field to score one of his two goals in the Lyons’ 3-2 loss to Massac County.

The Massac Illinois Patriots used a second half rally to beat the Lyons 3-2 on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Lee S. Jones park in Eddyville.

Timothy Stewart put the Lyons ahead 2-0 early in the game. A pass from Lukas Sperry 27 minutes in met the right side of the net before Ashton Reinwald was able to deflect it. Stewart caught Reinwald out of the net just over a minute later for his second goal of the night.

Jack Turner managed to trim the Lyons’ lead 2-1 with just 42 seconds on the clock. He beat out two Lyon defenders to hook the ball from the right post into the left corner just out of goalkeeper Jackson Crawford’s reach.

Massac’s Tate Jennings tied things up 2-2 at the 45 minute mark on a breakaway shot after dribbling through the Lyons’ defensive line that was pushed up near half field. Jennings met Turner at the net just five minutes later with a crossover pass that Turner drilled into the left side of the net, giving Massac the 3-2 lead.

The teams battled it out for nearly 30 minutes in the second half, but neither managed to find the net. Crawford finished the night with eight saves while Reinwald had four.
