Anna White

Lyon County’s Anna White meets the University Heights Academy defense as she attempts to score. UHA won the game 10-0.

It was a tough draw for the Lady Lyons in the first round of the All “A” Classic soccer regionals. The host, University Heights Academy, eliminated Lyon County 10-0 in the first round of the Second Region tournament Monday, Aug. 15 in Hopkinsville.

While the majority of the game was played just outside Lyon County’s goal, the Lady Lyons held strong for the early part of the game.

It took freshman Audrey Perry nearly 20 minutes to slip one past Lyon goalie Maddie Russell.

By halftime, Perry had scored twice more making it 3-0. Lyon only managed three attempts on goal the entire first half. Alice Smith had a nice shot from the left corner around 33 minutes in, but UHA’s goalkeeper snatched it up before Anna White could follow through.

The Lady Blazers were relentless in the second half. Alyssa Grise scored just four minutes in for the 4-0 lead. White and Marley Norwood each had multiple attempts on goal in the early minutes of the second half, but UHA quickly made a defensive shuffle to nix any shot Lyon had at scoring.

Perry put two more in the net to make it 6-0 with about 20 minutes left to play. Riley Bailey, Michele Salas and Anna Fourqueen each added a goal in the final minutes of the second half to round out the 10-0 shutout.

Lyon keeper Maddie Russell was credited with 20 saves.
